Settlement ends on a low note; Nifty down 18 points to 1309.75

Pivotals moved in a narrow range and closed marginally lower on selling pressure from foreign institutional investors on the last day of the current settlement, at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the downtrend, the S&P CNX Nifty eased by 18 points or 1.37 per cent to 1309.75 points as against 1327.75 points of the previous day.

CNX Nifty Junior also declined by 13.55 points to 2329.50 points from 2343.05 points while the S&P CNX Defty slid by 15.05 points to 1045.05 points from 1060.10 points. The S&P CNX 500 also shed 9.05 points at 916.75 points as compared to 925.80 points of the previous day.

However, CNX Midcap 200 index edged up by 2.40 points to 813.95 points from 811.55 points.

The NSE witnessed a total turnover of Rs 29.90 billion, involving 102.80 million shares in 384,903 trades. The debentures traded were valued at 18.20 million.

Today, 526 shares advanced, 528 declined, 70 remained unchanged while 97 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty losers were Telco which fell by 5.32 per cent to Rs 264.35 from Rs 279.20, Hero Honda 5.09 per cent to Rs 1287.30 (1356.30), Grasim 4 per cent to Rs 311.20 (324.15) , IPCL 3.94 per cent to Rs 112.25 (116.85) and M&M 3.63 per cent to Rs 402.70 (417.85).

The top gainers were: Indian Rayon which shot up by 8.05 per cent to Rs 65.80 from Rs 60.90, BHEL 8.01 per cent to Rs 289.75 (268.25), Cochin Refineries 2.57 per cent to Rs 135.50 (132.10), HDFC Bank 1.40 per cent to Rs 83.40 (82.25) and IDBI 0.90 per cent to Rs 33.65 (33.35).
