Firm trend helps pivotals to make smart gains; Nifty up 11 points to 1327.75

Market witnessed a firm trend at the National Stock Exchange as pivotals gained smartly on good buying support from institutional investors and operators today.

Securities namely, Telco, Tata Tea, Rolta, HCL-HP, Tisco, NIIT, Colgate, Square D-Software and Bajaj Auto were at the forefront in the rally, dealers said.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1316.90 points, touched the day's high of 1332.90 points, a low of 1312.80 points, before closing at 1327.75 points, showing a net gain of 10.95 points or 0.83 per cent from the previous close of 1316.80 points.

The S&P Nifty Junior shot up by 31.60 points at 2343.05 points from the previous close of 2311.45 points.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 24.79 billion. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 693.6 million.

Today, 622 securities advanced, 426 declined, 73 remained unchanged, an NSE release stated.

Among the top five gainers, BSES closed at Rs 165.70 (153.40), Bajaj Auto Rs 512.65 (Rs 474.65), TVS Suzuki Rs 785.35 (Rs 727.15), Telco Rs 279.20 (Rs 259.40) and Colgate Rs 281.55 (Rs 264.50).

The losers were Hero Honda Rs 1356.30 (Rs 1387.40), Infosys Technologies Rs 5071.30 (Rs 5169.70), ITC Rs 969.70 (Rs 987.15), Dr Reddy's Rs 1047 (Rs 1063.40), Ranbaxy Rs 986.75 (Rs 1001.15).
