Operators square positions on settlement-end; Sensex down 26 points to 4575.30

The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index closed below the 4,600 mark, losing about 26 points, due to squaring up of positions in key scrips by market players today.

According to marketmen, cement and select infotech stocks staged smart rally in a mixed trend at the BSE on the last day of current weekly settlement.

ACC, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Grasim posted handsome gains on good buying support. Select automobile shares were also in the limelight, while pivotals like ITC and Reliance reported decline, dealers said.

Mirroring the trend, the 30-scrip BSE Sensex opened at 4616.03 points which happens to be the day's high, fell below the 4600 mark to touch day's low of 4570.65 points, before closing at 4575.30 points, showing a net loss of 25.89 points or 0.56 per cent as against the previous close of 4601.19 points.

The broad-based BSE-100 index lost by 7.88 points to 2010.32 points from the previous close of 2018.20 points.
