Domestic operators exert selling pressure; Sensex tumbles 48 points, goes under 4500

Equities tumbled on selling pressure by domestic operators leading the Sensex to shed 48 points at the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the downtrend, the BSE-30 Sensitive Index (Sensex) ended 48.16 points or 1.06 per cent lower at 4494.18 as against the previous closing of 4542.34. The Sensex opened at an intra-day high of 4571.36 and witnessed a low of 4491.84.

Marketmen said that the trading witnessed all-round selling spree by the local operators, who booked gains at higher levels. Also, a downtrend in the Asian bourses affected market sentiments.

Shares of the Tata Companies like Tisco and Telco were on the downside. Telco fell by Rs 9 to end at Rs 231 while Tisco fell by Rs 3 to end at Rs 134.

However, software scrips witnessed a smart rally. Infosys Technologies ended Rs 233 higher at Rs 5,063 and Satyam Computers gained Rs 85 to close at Rs 1,765. Zee Telefilms ended Rs 47 higher at Rs 2,179.
