NSE-50 Index

Nifty slips 32.15 points

Pivotals declined sharply on the National Stock Exchange following depressed sentiment due to heavy selling pressure by foreign and domestic financial institutions on the first day of the current trading cycle today.

Mirroring the slide in share prices, the NSE-50 index dipped by 32.15 points to 962.90 points and dollar NSE-50 fell by 28.20 points to 788.40 points against the previous close. The Midcap Index crashed by 56.60 points to 1325.30 points as against 1381.90 points of the previous day.

The total turnover involving 59.81 million shares in 1,80,842 trades was Rs 14.88 billion while the traded value of debentures was Rs 627,000. One hundred and ten securities have hit their price bands today, 289 securities advanced, 616 declined while 83 remained unchanged.

ITC continued to record the highest turnover with 3.89 billion, followed by Satyam Comp (2.66 billion), Reliance (1.04 million), SBI 916.8 million, Zee Telefilms (889.2 million), ACC (598.6 million), Tata Tea (475.9 million), TISCO (413.8 million), L and T (396.1 million), TELCO (368.1 million), BFL Software (220 million), Hind Lever (214.9 million) and Castrol )191 million).

Ranbaxy toped the gainers list with 2.94 per cent increase to Rs 629.15, followed by M and M 2.14 per cent to Rs 210.10, MRPL 2.10 per cent to Rs 17.05 , TVS Suzuki 0.85 per cent to Rs 436.75, and BPCL 0.27 per cent to Rs 371.50.

Thermax figured first in the losers list with 9.75 per cent decrease followed by ACC 9.37 per cent, L and T 8.50 per cent, Ashok Leyfin 7.12 per cent and Ind Rayon 5.73 per cent. A net outflow of FIIs on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 630.9 million. According to an NSE release, the total purchases and sales by FIIs on the NSE were worth Rs 51.46 million and Rs 57.77 million respectively.
