Pressure map: West Indies vs New Zealand

If a team playing eight batsmen only gets 177, defeat appears imminent.

The rediff.com expert thought New Zealand would get at least 80 runs more than the West Indies. The initial pressure index (PI) was a mere 32.

When Fulton fell in the second ball of the innings, the PI rose to 39 - still, incredibly low for a big Super Eight match.

Through overs 5-20 the PI hovered around the 50 mark as NZ were set on consolidating.

Lara's smart run out of Fleming sent the PI up to 65, and when the next five overs yielded only 12 runs the PI rose to its highest point at 71.

But then McMillan and Styris opened up (probably got a message from the dressing room to speed up... to increase the NRR), and, just before the 40th over, NZ raced past the target of 178 to romp home.

There was an error in the live pressure index shown with the Rediff scorecard between overs 6-31 that sent NZ's PI mysteriously past 150! We are reproducing the correct pressure map here.
