Australia recall Bevan and Lehmann

February 14, 2003 16:09 IST
Australia [ Images ] have recalled batsmen Michael Bevan [ Images ] and Darren Lehmann to their 12-man squad for the World Cup Group A match against India [ Images ] on Saturday.

Bevan, who has the highest one-day international batting average in world cricket, missed the world champions' 82-run victory over Pakistan on Tuesday through injury, while Lehmann is available again after serving a five-match suspension.

The returns of Bevan and Lehmann will probably mean a demotion in the batting order for Andrew Symonds [ Images ], who earned the man-of-the-match award against Pakistan after scoring a magnificent unbeaten 143, his first one-day international century.

Batsman Jimmy Maher, who made only nine against Pakistan, and seam bowler Andy Bichel were left out of the squad, while leg spinner Shane Warne [ Images ] has returned to Australia after failing a drugs test.

Team (from): Adam Gilchrist [ Images ], Matthew Hayden [ Images ], Ricky Ponting [ Images ] (captain), Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann, Michael Bevan, Andrew Symonds, Ian Harvey, Brad Hogg [ Images ], Brett Lee [ Images ], Jason Gillespie, Glenn McGrath [ Images ].
