At least three more top Iraqi officials have been apprehended, the United States said on Friday.

Abdul Tawab Mullah Hwaish, minister of military industrialisation and No 16 on the 'most-wanted' list, is in custody, a statement from the US Central Command's base in Qatar said.

The military industrialisation ministry was established in the 1980s to develop weapons.

Also in custody is No 42 on the US list, Taha Mohieddin Ma'rouf, vice-president and member of Saddam Hussein's Revolutionary Command Council, the Centcom said.

He was one of the two vice-presidents, and a member of Saddam's council. But Ma'rouf was not considered part of the former Iraqi leader's inner circle and rarely appeared in public or made statements.

A US official in Washington said former Transport Minister Ahmed Murtada Ahmed Khalil has also been arrested. He was not on the most-wanted list.
