Pakistan on Thursday said it had not received any specific request from the United States to provide bases for launching attacks on Taleban-controlled Afghanistan to apprehend terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden, but said it would cooperate with Washington to track down those involved in the attacks on America.
The press secretary to Pakistan President, Major General Rashid Qureshi, and Information Secretary Answar Mehmood told reporters in Islamabad that Pakistan had so far not received any specific request or demand from the US to provide bases for attacks on Taleban to apprehend Laden.
However, they declined to answer questions about what would the government's stand be, if and when the request was made.
On Thursday's meeting between American ambassador to Pakistan Wendy Chamberlin and Pervez Musharraf, they said the envoy had not made any specific request.
Musharraf and Chamberlin discussed the situation arising of the attacks in New York and Washington, they said.
Asked what was the commitment given by Musharraf, Mehmood read the statement issued by the president in the morning, which said, "We regard terrorism as an evil that threatens the world community. Concerted international effort is needed to fight terrorism in all its forms and manifestations".
