UN to move staff out of Afghanistan

The United Nations on Wednesday announced that it would temporarily move it staff out of Afghanistan in view of the terrorist attacks in the United States of America.

Stephanie Bunker of the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance, in Islamabad, said, "We are considering temporary relocation of our international staff as a precautionary measure. The staff will be moved to Pakistan."

When asked if the UN office expected an attack on Afghanistan, she said "No."

Earlier on Wednesday, global business risk consultancy London-based Control Risks Group said, "Retaliatory US military action is expected against targets in Afghanistan and possibly Yemen" in the wake of terrorist attacks in New York city and Washington on Tuesday.

In an advisory posted on the company's Web site www.crg.com, the consultancy said, "Violent Islamic extremist reaction to US military action is expected in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen."
