Bomb found at Islamabad airport

Pakistani security forces found a bomb in a piece of luggage at Islamabad international airport on Saturday afternoon, a CNN report said.

The bomb was moved to a ditch near the airport, where it later blew up before experts could defuse it.

No one was injured, the authorities said, but some vehicles nearby were damaged.

Security has been placed at maximum alert at the airport ever since the United States-led campaign against terrorism began in neighbouring Afghanistan two weeks ago.

"Had the bomb went off in the main hall where it was placed, it would have caused extensive damage and casualties," an official of the Civil Aviation Authority said.

The unclaimed luggage was detected in the concourse hall around 1320 IST by a security guard, who removed it quickly when he failed to find the owner.
