US fighter jets resume strikes
after Friday's break

US fighter jets resumed raids over the Afghan capital early in the morning on Saturday (IST) after a temporary halt on Friday -- the Muslim holy day -- residents said.

Two loud explosions and anti-aircraft guns were heard in Kabul as fighter jets roared past.

"We heard two very large explosions," a resident in the city's northern part said.

"Taleban gunners opened anti-aircraft fire," as the jets flew overhead, he said adding the attack came around 0430 IST.
