FBI opens probe into New York anthrax case

The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday opened a criminal investigation into the case of anthrax found in a NBC employee in New York.

"The FBI has opened a separate criminal investigation into the case," said United States Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Ashcroft, however, added that no link as yet has been found in the anthrax cases of Florida and the lone case of New York

"The source of the anthrax is being investigated and has not yet been determined," he said.

"No conclusions have been reached at this time," he added.

Meanwhile, US President George W Bush, in a bid to allay the fears of a panicky America said the US was 'still in danger' but the government was responding 'quickly and forcefully'.

"Our nation is still in danger but the government is doing everything in our power to protect our citizenry," he said during a public appearance in the White House marking National Hispanic Heritage Month.
