Taleban troops trade gunfire with Pakistani guards

In the first clash since the United States-led military operations against Afghanistan, the Taleban troops on Tuesday traded gunfire with Pakistani border guards at a remote place in the North Western Frontier Province, official sources were quoted as saying.

The skirmish, in which four Pakistani personnel were wounded, broke out when Pakistani rangers thwarted an attempt by a group of Taleban fighters to enter the tribal-dominated Bajur in NWFP, media reports said quoting the sources.

The standoff lasted for three hours before the Taleban forces withdrew deeper into their own territories, they said.

No report was available on the casualties, if any, on the Taleban side.
