Fresh attacks rock Kabul

Afghan capital Kabul came under a second attack by US-led forces on early Monday morning, with one large explosion heard after a jet overflew the city, residents said.

They said the explosion around 0215 IST seemed to be centred on the Kabul airport and was larger than most heard in the air and missile attacks some four hours earlier.

The powerful explosion shook the area, setting off a burst of anti-aircraft fire. Power was cut again in the city after the blast. It was unclear whether the blast had damaged the transmission facilities or the Taleban were shutting off electricity to darken the city to prevent attackers from seeing targets.
