Mullah Omar warns US against toppling game

K J M Varma in Islamabad

Taleban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar has issued a stern warning to the US against any move to replace the militia's regime in Afghanistan with its "puppet government" and said the Afghans would fight back such efforts.

In a radio address in Kabul on Monday, Omar asked the US to "let the Muslims, Arabs and Afghans rule in their countries... only then can you live in peace."

He said the recent attacks on Washington and New York were the results of America's "own deeds."

With the news that there was a broad agreement between Afghan opposition groups and exiled Afghan King Zahir Shah in Rome on Monday about a future political set-up to overthrow the Taleiban regime, Omar said: "Don't be mistaken, people will come after you and kill you."
