Northern Alliance halts operations
ahead of 'US strikes'

The anti-Taleban Northern Alliance has halted its military operations against the Afghan militia forces on all fronts ahead of imminent US strikes, commercial channel NTV reported on Monday.

''In the course of Northern Alliance offensive in the recent days all Taleban positions have been pinpointed and information about their location has been passed on to the Americans. We are expecting a US strike within hours, NTV correspondent reported from northern Afghanistan quoting Afghan opposition sources.

Another NTV correspondent reporting from Tajik capital Dushanbe said the Northern Alliance and exiled King Zahir Shah have signed an agreement to set up a supreme council to bring together all anti-Taleban forces for the formation of a broad-based coalition government to replace the Taleban regime in Kabul.
