Northern Alliance promises lenient regime

Acting Afghan foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday said the United Islamic Front government in Kabul would stick to lenient policies.

He made the statement in Teheran after meeting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, official Iranian news agency Irna reported.

The two neighbouring Islamic countries' top diplomats exchanged views on the latest regional developments.

Abdullah emphasised the need to establish a broad-based government comprising all Afghan political parties and tribes. He asked for wide global cooperation aimed at reconstruction of the war-torn Afghanistan.

Kharrazi too announced Iran's readiness to cooperate in the process of establishment of a broad-based government in Afghanistan, ensuring return of peace and stability in the framework of efforts made by the United Nations in this regard.
