1,200 Pakistanis cross over to Afghanistan

Ignoring warnings from the Pakistan government, another batch of 1,200 armed tribesmen crossed over to Afghanistan on Sunday to join the Taleban in its fight against the United States-led coalition forces, taking the total number of volunteers to over 4,000 in four days.

The men were armed with automatic rifles and other weapons, reports from Pakistan's North West Frontier Province's Bajaur tribal agency said.

They were to be taken to the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan to join the other tribesmen who had crossed over earlier, the reports said.

Most of the Pakistani tribesmen, who crossed over to Afghanistan, do not have much training in handling arms. The Taleban was expected to conduct crash courses for them in handling weapons.
