Laden wants to die on TV to provoke terror strikes: Reports

Terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden is reported to have planned to die on television to be projected as a 'martyr' before United States-led forces can catch him, hoping that his death would trigger a series of terror strikes on targets like Capitol Hill (in the US), the Big Ben (in the United Kingdom) and the Eiffel Tower (in France), according to British media reports.

"His elder sons will kill him and that will be the signal for a new wave of terror," The Daily Record newspaper quoted his estranged wife Sabiha as saying.

"The targets this time would be Capitol Hill in Washington, Big Ben in London and the Eiffel Tower in Paris," the 45-year old wife, who has three children from the Al Qaeda chief, was quoted as telling Russian TV.

Sabiha outlined the 'spectacular suicide plan' saying Laden wanted his death to be aired on the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television channel as he bids to go down in history as a Muslim martyr, it said.

In a related report, another British publication The Sun said Laden has ordered the wives of Al Qaeda members to fight the US-led forces.

Laden, whose message was transmitted on radio by one of his chiefs and intercepted by anti-Taliban tribesmen, asked members of the cornered Al Qaeda to 'give your guns to your wives to fight against the infidel aggressors', the paper reported.

"The Sheikh (as Laden is known within Al Qaeda) says keep your children in the caves and fight for Allah," it said quoting the intercepts.
