United Defense, a leading US weapons manufacturer, has bought all the stock of Sweden's Bofors Weapon Systems, Jane's Defence Weekly has said.

United Defense industries, manufacturer of self-propelled artillery, light and medium tracked armoured fighting vehicles and naval gun systems, acquired the division from parent company Celsius for an undisclosed amount, the weekly said in its latest issue.

The sale is subject to approval from Swedish and US government officials.

BWS, with headquarters in Karlskoga, Sweden, has about 600 people engaged in the design, development and production of a wide range of land and naval weapons.

Key products of Bofors Weapon Systems include 155 mm artillery systems, the 155 mm bonus intelligent artillery projectile developed in association with Giat Industries of France, 40mm and 57mm naval guns, ammunition, and armoured vehicle turrets.

The Bofors 6x6 FH-77BD 166mm/45 caliber self-propelled artillery system is currently in India for trial.
