East Bengal came back from a two goals deficit to draw against Mohammadan Sporting 2-2 in their round 17 encounter of the ONGC I-League at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan (YBK) at Salt Lake in Kolkata on Saturday.
Mike Okoro and Eugene Gray scored early to give Mohammadan Sporting an unprecedented 2-0 lead in the first half.
However, the joy for Shabbir Ali's boys was short-lived as East Bengal bounced back scoring two goals in the space of five minutes to share the honours.
The Chhetri duo of Nirmal and Sunil scored in quick succession as East Bengal displayed some resurgence after the changeover.
Thereafter, however, luck did not favour East Bengal and Mohammadan Sporting custodian Naseem Akhtar came out with two brilliant saves to negate their opponents' efforts.
For East Bengal, the hangover of beating arch-rivals Mohun Bagan 3-0 last Sunday was clearly visible in the first-half as Mohammadan Sporting took an early lead in the 4th minute.
East Bengal displayed some poor defence as the new combination of Nirmal Chhetri and M Suresh lacked coordination.
