Indian Davis Cupper Prakash Ammritraj put up a valiant fight before losing to top seed Vincent Spadea in the quarter-finals of the US $50,000 Calabasas Challenger event in California, US.
Amritraj, ranked 227 in the ATP charts, lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4) to his formidable American opponent, who is ranked as high as 89 in the list.
With Amritraj's defeat, the Indian challenge ended in the singles event.
In the doubles competition, though, Somdev Devvarman kept Indian hopes alive as he and his Australian partner Nathar Healey made it to the semi-finals. They beat Amritraj and Alex Kuznetsov in the quarter-finals.
