Indian ace Mahesh Bhupathi and partner Mark Knowles of The Bahamas moved into the quarter-finals of the euro 2,270,000 Madrid Masters after their opponents handed them a walk-over in the second round.
The duo were up against the Spanish pair of Rafael Nadal and Carlos Moya, who opted out of the contest due to a lower back injury to the world No 1.
Fourth seeds Bhupathi and Knowles had a bye in the first round.
The third seeded Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy will play their second round match against Spanish wild cards Pablo Andujar and Marcel Granollers.
