With a vintage Jose Ramirez Barreto with his magical charm on display, Mohun Bagan strolled past Chirag United 2-0 to inch closer to leaders Sporting Clube de Goa in the ONGC I-League table.

Displaying sheer dominance right from the start, the Karim Bencherfia boys never gave any chance to Chirag United and made it a no-contest, banging in both the goals by 30 minutes at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan (YBK) at Salt Lake in Kolkata on Saturday.

The old magic of Barreto and Bhaichung Bhutia did honours for Mohun Bagan who thus registered six wins on a trot, with their first one coming against reigning champions Dempo SC, which the Brazilian had termed as the "turning point" in their I-League turnaround.

In fact, it was Subrata Bhattacharya's boys Chirag United who paled in comparison with Man-of-the-Match Barreto drawing the first blood in the 14th minute.

A corner from Marcos Pereira set up Mohun Bagan's first goal, as Shylo Malswam Tulunga positioned himself brilliantly to give a cross to Barreto.

Barreto did not have to produce a powerful header but deftly he put it across the opponent's goalkeeper for Mohun Bagan to go 1-0 up.

It was a lapse from Subhashish Roy Chowdhury, who failed in clearing the ball that set it rolling for the green-and-maroon brigade's second goal.

Tulunga was at it again as the mid-fielder took hold of the defensive lapse.

Tulunga clinical passing was utilised by Lal Kamal Bhowmick who crossed it for Barreto to take charge again. The Brazilian, again, came up with a fine and well-calculated header which was found by Bhutia.

From the side volley, the national captain produced a sharp right footer which was enough to deceive Chirag United custodian Gopal Das.

The second-half was just a regulation play for Mohun Bagan who dropped in the intensity, already assured of three points from their good work in the first 45 minutes.

The last 10 minutes saw, Chirag United bag few chances but only to see them squander with substitute Shankar Oraon, who replaced captain Lalmalswama Hmar in the midfield, being the culprit.

Missing in a space of three minutes, Oraon first found the hands of Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Shilton Paul, while the second time he shot it far right to see the team go down.

Mohun Bagan now have 18 points from 11 matches, while Chirag United have 12.
