World number six Andy Roddick has pulled out of next week's French Open due to a problem with his back, his brother John Roddick said on Monday at the World Team Cup in Duesseldorf.

Roddick sustained the injury in his semi-final match against Stanislas Wawrinka at the Rome Masters earlier this month and needs to rest for 10-12 days, his brother said in a statement released by Duesseldorf organisers.

Roddick has had a decent year so far with title sin San Jose and Dubai and a 24-5 match record.

The American alaso made the semi-finals of the Masters Series events at Miami, beating bete noire Roger Federer en route for only the second time in his career, and Rome.
