Joshna Chinappa pulled off a huge upset when she beat second seed Sharon Wee to reach the final of the NSC Tour 1 squash tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
The sixth seeded Indian No 1 fought gamely for 50 minutes to carve out a 9-6, 3-9, 1-9, 9-7, 9-2 victory over her illustrious Malaysian opponent.
It was a morale boosting win for Joshna considering that 22 rungs separate her from world No 22 Wee in rankings.
In Wednesday's final, Joshna will take on top seed and world No 18 Jaclyn Hawkes, who twice came from behind before scraping past Louise Crome 5-9, 9-2, 6-9, 9-4, 9-5.
Joshna had beaten compatriot Dipika Pallikal in the quarter-finals of the US $12,000 WISPA tournament.
Earlier this month, she reached the final of the Vietnam Open, where she lost to top seed Crome.
