The top-seeded Swiss, bidding for the only Grand Slam title missing from his collection, will be second on Centre Court after seventh seed Elena Dementieva and Vera Zvonareva, seeded 11th, play one of two all Russian fourth-round clashes.
The other one will be on Court Suzanne Lenglen where 13th seed Dinara Safina meets world number one Maria Sharapova, who still has to put up a convincing display at Roland Garros this year.

Spaniard fifth seed David Ferrer will hope to continue his run towards a potential semi-final clash with Federer when he takes on Czech Radek Stepanek.
Robby Ginepri will try to follow in the footsteps of Andre Agassi, the last American to reach the last eight on the Paris clay in 2003, when he faces Chile's Fernando Gonzalez.
There will be at least one more unseeded women's player in the quarter-finals as world number 87 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic takes on Estonia's Kaia Kanepi, 49th in the WTA rankings, and hope to join Spanish qualifier Carla Suarez Navarro in the last eight.
