Indian Davis Cupper Prakash Amritraj put up a brilliant fight back to advance to the singles second round of the USD 385,000 Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Tuesday.
Amritraj, a wild card entrant pipped Joseph Sirianni of Australia 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4 in a first round match, lasting almost two hours in Newport, United States.
Amritraj also booked a second round berth in the doubles event along with Luxembourg partner Giles Muller as the wild card pair stunned American second seeds Scott Lipsky and David Martin 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-7 in the first round.
Also advancing to the doubles second round were Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-haq-Qureshi, as the fourth seeded pair defeated Americans Tripp Phillips and Jim Thomas 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 in their first round match.
Bopanna, who entered the singles main draw as a qualifier, had already got himself a place in the singles second round after a facile first round win over American Kim Kevin.
