Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna set up a second round clash with top seed Mardy Fish after defeating Kim Kevin on Monday in straight sets at the US $385,000 Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport, United States.
Bopanna beat his American opponent 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 11 minutes.
Both the players struggled in converting the break-points and squandered numerous chances. Bopanna could convert just three of 10 while Kevin converted just one of the nine break-points that came his way.
But Bopanna lived up to his reputation of being a booming server, firing 15 aces as against one of Kevin.
Bopanna, who is ranked 374, has a tough test in the second round as he is up against a player who is ranked as high as 41 in the ATP ranking charts.
Fish got a bye in the first round.
