Salgaocar once again squandered the lead as they allowed Sporting Clube de Goa to come back in the second half and hold them to a 1-1 draw in the ONGC I-league played in Margao on Thursday.
Salgaocar are at the bottom with 6 points from 13 matches while Sporting with 13 points from as many matches are seventh.
Both the teams started in right earnest as they attacked each other's goal. Salgaocar, winless so far, had the first chance in the 10th minute but Felix Chimaokwu was unlucky to see his header strike the post off a free kick taken by Nicolas Rodrigues.
However, Chimaokwu put Salgaocar in the lead in the 26th minute when he scored from inside the box off a pass from Milagres Gomes to have Salgaocar leading 1-0 at half time.
Sporting who drew against Salgaocar in the first leg also had two opportunities to equalise in the first half, but first Olushalau Ogunda shot off a pass by Elijah was cleared by Salgaocar's defender Samson Fernandes on the goal line. Later, Salgaocar keeper Marcus Bastumatri brought off a good save to deny Wilton Gomes from equalising off a pass from Elijah.
Changing over, Sporting dictated terms over their rivals and found the equaliser in the 64th minute through a penalty.
The penalty was awarded by referee Minangsu Bhattacharya after Salgaocar's keeper Marcus Bastumatri brought down Elijah inside the box. Denzil Franco who took the penalty made no mistake in finding the net to put Sporting in level.
