Chelsea moved to within three points of Manchester United in third place in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw with Liverpool in a poor match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

United were upset 2-1 at Old Trafford by local rivals Manchester City in the day's earlier match, missing the chance to snatch the lead from Arsenal for at least 24 hours.

Arsenal, who play Blackburn Rovers on Monday, have 60 points from 25 matches and victory will move them five points clear of United, who have 58 from 26.

Chelsea, whose unbeaten run at home in the league was extended to 76 matches, have 55 points with Everton, 1-0 winners at home against Reading on Saturday, fourth on 47 points.

Liverpool's point took them above Manchester City and Aston Villa into fifth place, equal with both on 44 points but ahead on goal difference.

City handed United their first home loss of the season, denting their title ambitions as they commemorated the Munich air crash that killed 23 people, including eight United players, 50 years ago this week.

First-half goals from Darius Vassell and debutant Benjani Mwaruwari gave City their first win at Old Trafford since 1974 and their first league double over United since 1969.

Substitute Michael Carrick scored a consolation goal in stoppage time.
