Sania Mirza was shown the door in the first round of the Zurich Open on Monday night. The India ace was beaten by Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-4.
Sania, who dropped to 30 in the latest WTA singles rankings following a first round exit at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last week, converted only three of the eight break points she had, while wildcard Krajicek pocketed six of the seven that came her way.
In the second round, the 33rd-ranked Krajicek will meet the winner of the match between ninth seed Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli and qualifier Shuai Peng of China.
In the doubles, Sania, who returned to competitive action only last week following a brief injury lay-off, will partner Patty Schnyder of Switzerland. They will take on Peng and M Tu of the United States.
In other first round matches, Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine recovered to beat Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 while Tatiana Golovin (France) beat Maria Kirilenko (Russia) 6-3, 6-4 and Nicole Vaidisova (Czech Republic) beat Katarina Srebotnik (Slovenia) 6-4, 6-2.
