The Goa Football Association has lodged a police complaint against Churchill Brothers' secretary Ciabro Alemao and his nephew Warren Alemao for allegedly assaulting referee Angelo Fernandes after Sunday's Goa Professional League match against Dempo.

GFA secretary Savio Messais said, "After receiving the referee's report, we have lodged a police complaint against the duo who attacked the official yesterday following the match for denying a penalty in the dying minutes, as Dempo keeper Tyson Ciado brought down Odafe Okolie inside the box.

"GFA will also hold a meeting in the evening today to decide what action will be taken against the erring official and the team."

Dempo won the match, at the Tilak ground, Vasco, 2-1.

Churchill, who needed a victory to stay in contention for the title, rallied from a goal in arrears to go into the breather 1-1 after their star striker Okolie cancelled an early strike from Dempo's Clifton Gonsalves.

But Dempo restored the lead in the second half through Edeh Chiddi.

Churchill, who went all out for the equaliser, were allegedly denied a penalty in the dying minutes by referee Fernandes after Dempo keeper Ciado brought down Okolie inside the box.

This infuriated the Churchill Bros officials and their supporters who assaulted the referee after the match.

Dempo, who took an unbeatable lead with 32 points and have a match in hand, were crowned Goa Professional League Champion after a gap of two years.
