Kaboul saves Robinson's blushes as Tottenham salvage 4-4 draw

Tottenham Hotspur staged a remarkable late rally to draw 4-4 with Aston Villa in a bizarre Premier League match at White Hart Lane on Monday.

Two dreadful errors from England goalkeeper Paul Robinson looked to have sunk Tottenham, who trailed 4-1 with little over 20 minutes remaining, but the home side hit back and French defender Younes Kaboul smashed in a stoppage time leveller.

Tottenham, whose Dutch manager Martin Jol has been under mounting pressure, remain in the bottom three with six points from eight games while Villa wasted a chance to go fifth.

The home side, wearing a special kit to commemorate the club's 125th anniversary, took a deserved lead with a Dimitar Berbatov header after 20 minutes but the party soon went flat.

Within two minutes Robinson dropped a routine corner from Gareth Barry into the path of Danish defender Martin Laursen who slotted in the equaliser from close range.

Robinson made his second howler 10 minutes later, this time allowing the ball to squeeze through his legs into the net after a Zat Knight header had bobbled off Laursen.

At least Robinson could do nothing about Villa's third five minutes before halftime when striker Gabriel Agbonlahor turned Michael Dawson and drilled a low shot inside the post.

Villa went 4-1 up just before the hour with a fierce Craig Gardner free kick and Jol's job looked precarious.

Pascal Chimbonda slotted in after 67 minutes when Jermain Defoe's effort came back off the post and Robbie Keane made it 4-3 with a penalty after Darren Bent was bundled over.

In a frantic finish Tottenham poured forward and Kaboul sent an unstoppable effort past Scott Carson into the top corner.
