Punjab and Sind Bank (PSB) and Bharat Petroleum (BP) will face off in the finals of the 44th Nehru Hockey Tournament in New Delhi on Sunday.
While PSB defeated Namdhari XI 4-1 in the first semi-final, BP got the better off Indian Airlines 3-2. PSB got an early lead after they were awarded a penalty corner in the 10th minute, which was executed by Vikramjit Singh. PSB capitalised on their good start and Mandeep Singh added another goal in the 16th minute.
Namdhari XI opened their account just before half-time of a penalty corner in the 34th minute through Harpal Singh.After the break, Sarvanjit Singh and Gurvinder Chandi added two more goals in the 48th and 52th minute for PSB to wrap-up the match.
In the second semi-final, BP led 1-0 at half-time through Gurpreet Singh (32nd minute). Gurpreet added another goal after converting a penalty corner in the 47th minute. Sandeep Micheal and Sandeep Singh scored one goal each to draw level for IA but Sabu inked the deciding goal in the 67th minute to take BP to the final.
