Mohun Bagan outplayed Malaysian club Pahang and beat them by a brace in their last Group-F AFC Cup Championship at Salt Lake stadium on Tuesday night.
Medio Lalkamal Bhowmik put Bagan in the lead in the 12th minute while striker Lalam Puia found the target in the 71st minute.
Pahang midfielder Rashid Mamud and Bagan defender Favio Vidal were shown red cards by referee Dilover Orzuev from Tazakastan for hitting each other towards the end.
With this victory, Bagan who finished eight in the National Football League, definitely salvaged some prestige but that was not enough to put them through to the quarter-final stage of AFC Cup as the best runners-up team out of the three groups -- D, E, F.
Mahindra United from Group E qualified for the quarter-final stage as the best runner-up team from the three groups having collected 12 points from six outings.
Bagan after today's victory have 11 points from six matches.
Tampines Rovers from Singapore already made sure of finishing top from group-F as they have got 13 points in five matches.
