Amandeep Johl ensured Indian presence over the weekend at the Maekyung Open as he made the cut with a one-under 71, even as Rahil Gangjee fell by the wayside after returning a six-over 78 in the second round of the USD 600,000 event in Seoul on Friday.

Johl slotted five birdies against four bogeys in a rollercoaster round that placed him tied 50th with a two-day total of three-over 147. Gangjee, however, had nothing going for him as he bowed out with a total of 155.

In what turned out to be an eventful day for him, Johl started well, sinking in a first-hole birdie, but failed to build on it as he blew away the chance for a better finish with back-to-back bogeys on the last two holes.

After a bogey on the third, Johl saved par on the fourth but let the advantage slip with a dropped shot on the sixth. He, however, managed to make the turn one-under after gaining a shot on the eighth.

Johl's backward journey was no less eventful as he bogeyed the 11th but got his act together to birdie the 12th, 15th and 16th holes and looked well set at three-under for the day but bogeys on the last two holes saw him drop to 71.

Meanwhile, China's Liang Wen-chong battled to a one-under 71 to retain his overnight lead at the halfway stage. After an opening card of 64 at the Nam Seoul Country Club, Liang fired four birdies against three bogeys for a total of nine-under 135.
