Goa's Vasco Sports Club beat ONGC, Mumbai, by a solitary first-half goal in a second division National Football League match in Kozhikode on Tuesday.
Keke Ibrahim netted the all-important goal after a solo run in the 21st minute.
ONGC came close to leveling the score in the 38th minute, but Amit Mondal's cross was messed up near the goalmouth by Goutam Thakur and Rahskak Naik.
At the end of the first round in the six-team five-round final phase, Viva Kerala, Kochi, and Vasco lead the table with three points each, while Salgaocar, Goa and Army XI, New Delhi, have a point each.
