A last-minute goal by Nigerian striker Felix Chimaokwu enabled former National Football League champions Salgaocar, Goa, hold Army XI, New Delhi, 1-1 in a final round second Division National Football League match in Kozhikode on Sunday.
After failing to find success despite coming up with a splendid show in the second half, Salgaocar finally scored from a penalty that came its way in the 90th minute, after Felix was brought down by the rival goalkeeper.
Earlier, Army XI stormed ahead in the 27th minute, also through a penalty by Raghu Kumar after Salgaocar's Agnelo Colaco handeled the ball.
The Goan team could have registered a comfortable victory had they made use of at least a few of the several chances, including seven corners, that came their way.
While they missed a golden opportunity to restore parity in the 31st minute when Agnelo Barreto's header hit the crossbar, six minutes later Barreto again failed to connect a neat pass from Felix in front of the goalmouth.
The biggest blunder was in the 86th minute when Salgaocar's captain, Mickey Fernandes failed to capitalise on an indirect free-kick inside the box.
Salgoacar's Agnelo Colaco and Army's K P Kabui received yellow cards.
