An injury time goal by Yusif Yakubu guided Mahindra United to a solitary goal victory over New Radiant of Maldives in their Group 'E' home match of the AFC Cup tournament, at the Nehru stadium in Margoa, Goa, on Tuesday.
Yakubu scored after Andrew Pomeyie's shot deflected off goalkeeper Devinda.
Mahindra dominated the match and created several scoring chances. They could have easily won by bigger margin had their strikers, Andrew Pomeyie and Yusif Yakubu, been on target.
New Radiant came up with a couple of counter moves but from those Qasim Shamwel's header sailed inches over the bar and then Mahindra 'keeper Sandip Nandy effected a diving save off Simaz Hussain from the top of the box.
Referee Al Ghatrifi Mohamood Mohd Juma of Oman showed yellow cards to Mahindra's Mbaka Bekembe Dady and Yusif Yakubu.
With the match heading for a draw, Mahindra struck in injury time. Bekembe's shot at goal was intercepted by Andrew Pomyie. The last-named's effort was saved by 'keeper Sadun Devinda. The onrushing Yakubu capitalized on the opportunity and shot home.
