India's Saurav Ghosal defeated Chong Kam Hing (Malaysia) 11-8, 11-7, 10-11, 11-10 in the first qualifying round of the USD 40,000 CIMB Squash Open Championship being held at Kuala Lumpur.
After the match, Saurav said the match was a bit uncomfortable for him because of a back spasm.
"That's the reason I had to slow down which helped me to hold on till the end."
The CIMB Kuala Lumpur Squash Open Championship features Nick Mathew, world ranked 7th, who has been given top billing and Karim Darwish, world ranked 9th, who has been seeded second,a press release from the Squash Racquets Federation of India said on Tuesday.
The five day tournament began on March 12.
National champion, Saurav, ranked 45 in the world, plays Timothy Arnold of Malaysia, ranked 114, in the last round match of qualifiers at the National Squash Centre.
