JCT Mills, Phargava, registered their first victory in the National Football League, beating Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan 2-0 in a second round match in Ludhiana on Wednesday.
Sunil Chhetri, who was later adjudged man of the match, scored both the goals in the first half.
Three-time champions Bagan, who were held goalless by HAL in their opening match, were unable to get going after Chhetri put JCT ahead in the seventh minute and then added another ten minutes before half-time.
JCT were beaten by Mohammedan Sporting 1-2 in their opening match.
JCT dominated the right from the start and Bagan, despite having strikers of the calibre of Jose Ramirez Barreto and India captain Baichung Bhutia, failed to make an impact.
Adding insult to injury, Bagan defender Sanjeev Maria received marching orders after getting two yellow cards. He will miss the club's next match against Mahindra United.
JCT next face Churchill Brothers, Goa, on January 17, while Mohun Bagan have a tough task against defending champions Mahindra United in Mumbai on Sunday.
