Sania Mirza romped into the second round of the Qatar Total Open, scoring a straight sets victory over Italy's Romina Oprandi in Doha on Monday evening.
The 46-ranked Indian ace needed a little under an hour-and-a-quarter to post a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the US $1,340,000 Tier II WTA Tour tournament.
Sania had reached the quarter-finals of the Bangalore Open, where she lost to Russian Yaroslava Shvedova in three tough sets.
The 20-year-old Hyderabadi had taken a week's break from the circuit after that defeat.
In other matches earlier in the day, Italy's Mara Santangelo, who lost to Shvedova in the final at Bangalore, beat Germany's Sandra Kloesel 6-3, 7-6(4), while eighth seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy beat Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 6-2, 6-4.
