Chennai Veerans exposed the chinks in the defence of Hyderabad Sultans beating them by a solitary goal in their second leg encounter in the Premier Hockey League in Chandigarh on Saturday.
With this victory, the Veerans have a tally of 10 points while the Sultans are placed at the bottom of the table with five points.
The Sultans, who appeared to be in an attacking mode at the start, played a defensive game once Veerans fired the first goal in the 10th minute of the second quarter.
It was a good move started by Kamal Lakra, Adam Sinclair and V Raju before the ball was passed on to Pramod Kumar who hit it cleanly past the goalkeeper.
The Sultans earned two penalty corners, one each in the first and the second quarter, but failed to convert them.
The Sultans also got atleast three close chances of scoring a goal, but lack of co-ordination among the forwards saw them missing the chances.
In the third quarter, Sultans' 25-year-old Spanish import Ramon Alegre acted in haste by trying to hit the ball on the run when he got a pass. As a result, he was not able to control the ball which only needed to be directed inside the goal.
The match, which saw thin crowd response, lacked in enthusiasm as both teams failed to generate any real attacking moves.
