Ace shuttler Anup Sridhar attained his career best world ranking of 29 as per the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation on Thursday.

Sridhar's sterling performance in the recently concluded World Championship in Kuala Lumpur - where he reached the quarter-finals after scalping Olympic gold medalist Taufiq Hidayat of Indonesia and former All England Champion Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia - fetched him 6600 points and helped him jump 11 places from 40 to the current ranking of 29.

Sridhar's previous best ranking was 31, Tata Padukone Badminton Academy said in a release in Bangalore.

With this the 24-year-old old becomes the highest ranked Indian men's singles player as he takes over the mantle from Chetan Anand, who currently is at 33.

Saina Nehwal is the highest ranked Indian women's singles player at 28.

The next major event for Sridhar will be the Indian Open to be held in Hyderabad from September 5.
