Leander Paes is all set to clash Mahesh Bhupathi with former doubles partner in the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup without playing a single match in the event.
Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm, who were given a first-round bye, earned a walkover against Canadian wildcards Frank Dancevic and Frederic Niemeyer in the second round.
Eighth seeds Bhupathi and Pavel Vizner had beaten Fernando Gonzalez and Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.
The world number one team of Mike and Bob Bryan vanquished their singles counterpart, Roger Federer, in an exciting second round contest.
Federer, teaming up with fellow Swiss Yves Allegro went down 7-6(7), 6-7(8), 10-7 to the Americans.
Federer and Allegro won two more points than the top-seeded tandem and defending doubles champions during the 1 hour, 38 minute match, but still fell short of victory.
The Bryans have yet to be defeated during the 2007 US Open Series and now boast a nine-match winning streak. They won the Los Angeles and Washington titles in their last two tournament appearances, taking their season trophy count up to a circuit-leading eight titles.
