Ashutosh Singh and Aditya Madkekar advanced to the quarterfinals of the USD 10,000 ITF men's tennis event after beating their compatriots at the DLTA complex in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Singh beat third seed Vijay Kannan 6-3, 6-4, while fifth seed Madkekar got past Vishnu Vardhan who retired in the decisive third set when trailing 0-1.
Vardhan fought back after conceding the opening set 7-6 (5) to pocket the second 6-3. However, he had to withdraw from the contest due to cramps.
Local lad Yuki Bhambri put up a brave fight before losing the second round tie against top seed Pakistani Aqeel Khan 4-6, 6-7 (5).
Rohan Gajjar was outplayed by Chinese fourth seed Peng Sun 0-6, 6-4, 1-6.
Vijayant Malik meekly surrendered against second seed Yu Jr Wang (CHN) 1-6, 0-6.
