The Pakistan Hockey Federation announced a 16-member new-look team under the leadership of energetic striker Rehan Butt for next month's Doha Asian Games.
The squad includes uncapped forward Rashid Imran. Shakeel Abbasi is named vice-captain.
Tariq Aziz, another forward, also made a comeback after serving a six-month suspension for misconduct at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in March.
The fresh faces were brought in after the PHF recently dropped five stalwarts -- Mohammad Saqlain, Sohail Abbas, Waseem Ahmad, Ghazanfar Ali and Dilawar Hussain -- on disciplinary grounds.
The players were asked to join the preparatory camp but they preferred to play in different European leagues, prompting the PHF to take such drastic step.
"Since now they have left us, we will never consider them in future. They will never be in team at least until I am at the helm," PHF president Zafarullah Jamali was quoted as saying in the Dawn.
The squad:
Goalkeepers: Salman Akbar, Nasir Ahmad.
Full-backs: Imran Warsi, Ihsanullah, Zeeshan Ashraf.
Half-backs: Imran Khan, Adnan Maqsood, Sajjad Anwar, Mohammad Imran.
Forwards: Rehan Butt (capt), Rashid Imran, Shakeel Abbasi, Tariq Aziz, Mohammad Zubair, Waqas Sharif, Mudassir Khan.
Standbys: Farhan, Mohammad Ateeq (goalkeeper), Kashif Ali (full-back), Zaheer, M Javed, Rana Asif (half-backs), Ishtiaq, Haseem Khan, Mustansar Sheikh, Kashif Yaqoob (forwards).
