Ace shooter Abhinav Bindra on Thursday informed the National Rifle Association of India of his withdrawal from the 2006 Asian Games in Doha due to a back injury.

"It's needless to say I'm very disappointed. Playing for the country at the Asian Games is always exciting. I was looking forward to this all year. But, things happen, and one has to learn to work around it. And I'm going to give my recovery a 100% so there are no hindrances during the Olympics," Bindra said.

Having sustained the injury during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, Bindra received treatment in Munich. His doctor has instructed a recovery period of 6 weeks, followed by a transition period of 3 weeks.

The statement by Dr. Schneider specifies a muscular build up programme under professional supervision for Bindra.
